The first Official National Horse Championship was held in October 1983  "I Concurso Nacional Oficial de Equinos de Lisboa"  at "Hipodromo do Campo Grande" in Lisbon and was organised by Associação Central da Agricultura Portuguesa (founded in June of 1860).

The second Horse Championship was held in June 1984 "II Exposição Nacional do Cavalo" (National Horse Show)  at "Hipodromo do Campo Grande" in Lisbon and was organised also by the Associação Central da Agricultura Portuguesa.

The first International Lusitano Horse Championship was held in June 1986 "I Campeonato Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano" at "Hipodromo do Campo Grande" in Lisbon organised by the Associação Central da Agricultura Portuguesa .

At this championship our Lusitano stallion "Go-Go", Fernando D'Andrade Stud, was the champion 3 years old horse - "Gold Medal".

The second International Lusitano Horse Championship was held in June 1988 "II Campeonato Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano" at "Hipodromo do Campo Grande" in Lisbon organised by the Associação Central da Agricultura Portuguesa and Associação Portuguesa de Criadores de Raças Selectas.

The third International Lusitano Horse Championship was held in June 1991 "Festival Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano" at "Hipodromo do Campo Grande" in Lisbon and was the first to be organised by the APSL - Associação Portuguesa de Criadores do Cavalo Puro-Sangue Lusitano and was an homage to Fernando D'Andrade the founder of APSL who passed way on the 30th of April 1991. 

Since this date every year the International Lusitano Horse Championships, "Festival Internacional do Puro Sangue Lusitano", have been organised by the APSL. These Chaompionships have been the main stage for Lusitano horse breeders show the results of their breeding efforts regarding the Lusitano horse.

Until 2003 this Festival has carried out in June and was held  at "Hipodromo do Campo Grande" in Lisbon which belongs to the Equestrian Portuguese Society "Sociedade Hipica Portuguesa".

The XVI International Lusitano Horse Championship was held in June 2004 "Festival Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano" at the Equestrian Centre of Companhia das Lezirias close to Porto Alto, in Samora Correia.

The XVII and XVIII International Lusitano Horse Championships were held in June 2005 and 2006 "Festival Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano" at Hipodromo Municipal Manuel Possolo, in Cascais.

We inform you that XIX Edition of "FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DO CAVALO LUSITANO" will happen between 14th and 17th of June 2007 again at "Hipodromo Municipal Manuel Possolo", in Cascais.
